Islaz commune is located on the Danube, at the mouth of the river Olt, on its right bank, at approx. 10 km west from Turnu Măgurele. On the Danube you can find the Ostrovul Mare nature reserve. The surface waters near the Islaz are the Danube, the Olt and the Sâiul (former riverbed of the Olt, fed by the groundwater).The soil is partly of cernoziom, partly alluvial (in the Olt river and on the Danube). The vegetation includes crops, meadows and, on the Danube and Olt, meadows and meadow vegetation.
