The name Boracay comes from the local word borac and means white cotton and characterizes the sand here. Through the 1970s the island was opened to tourists, in the 1980s it became a cheap and popular destination, and in the 1990s the beaches of Boracay were designated the most beautiful in the world. It also helps the climate, with the average annual temperature being around 30 degrees Celsius. Besides the fine and white sand there is the risk of becoming dependent on tufts!
